CFD Analysis and Taguchi-Based Optimization of the Thermohydraulic Performance of a Solar Air Heater Duct Baffled on a Back Plate

In this paper, a solar air collector duct equipped with baffles on back plate was numerically investigated. The Reynolds number (Re) varied from 5000 to 20,000, the angle baffle (a) 30° 120°, spacing ratio (Pr) 2 8, and blockage (Br) 0.375 0.75 examine their effects Nusselt (Nu), friction factor (f), thermohydraulic performance parameter (η). 2D numerical simulation used standard k-ε turbulence model enhanced wall treatment. Taguchi method design experiment, generating an orthogonal array consisting of four factors each at levels. optimization results CFD analysis showed that optimal geometry = 90°, Pr 6, Br achieved maximum η. influence all investigated parameters considerable because as increased, larger primary vortex region formed downstream baffle. At Re parameters, η 1.01 reached. A between 60° 90° high due impingement heat transfer.
